Artist's Comments

I know posting this piece is quite late, never had the chance to do so. I did this or rather started to work on this before the film ever came out. I first saw the initial images of heath in the joker costume and it got me all excited to something but never had the chance since i had deadlines to finish.

Then, the teaser trailer came out, i saw how awesome the joker was, so in the midst of my schedule i squeezed this in, working on it little by little, the my GF told me about a contest with the batman: dark knight theme in it, i worked on this to be an entry, but i never got to finish it for toycon last year(june i think).

Anyway, the inspiration behind this piece was that line the joker said in the mob meeting, he said " simple. kill the batman."

I toyed with the idea that the joker manipulating people into becoming or letting out the joker in them, so there's a lot of joker dudes at the bottom, i was supposed to do henchmen with the joker masks, but with just the trailer, i could get a good reference for the masks, so i just did my own thing.

The funny thing is, when i finally watched the movie, i saw that my idea was not far from the joker's goals. So this piece is somewhat a representation of that theme, rather than following any superhero form, more on the artistic element or poetic..i dont know..x_X; viewing art, be it abstract or contemporary is plainly upto the viewer, what message they see.

There's another line the joker said that really struck me, in the part where he burnt the pile of money with the accountant on top of it, he said "..it's not about the money, it's about sending a message."

Which is how art used to be, artists mostly drew or painted to express their emotions, sometimes thoughts on anything, social or political, what ever it is. They did art to send a message.

The money was secondary.

Anyway, that's just my thoughts, how about you, what do you think? :salute:
